Fire Department Services
BGFD responds to fire, EMS, HAZ MAT and rescue calls. Calls average between 170 and 200 per year. Approximately 65% are EMS calls.
BGFD equipment includes two pumpers, two tankers, one mini-pumper and one rescue truck. The 750 gpm pump holds 1000 gallons of water; the 1250 gpm pump holds 1250 gallons of water. One tanker has a 500 gpm pto pump that holds 3000 gallons of water and the other tanker has a 500 gpm pto pump that holds 1500 gallons of water. Rescue equipment includes the Jaws of Life, shears, rams, air bags. And numerous hand tools to handle almost any rescue situation. BGFD also carries the most up to date defibrillator, and all medically qualified people are qualified on the defib. All members are certified in CPR.
BGFD serves a 50-square mile area with approximately 1650 residences. This includes a 300+ trailer park and numerous housing additions outside the city limits.
BGFD has one training and one business meeting per month. It conducts most of its training in-house, as there are four members who are certified instructors at this time. It is highly unusual for one department to have this many instructors. BGFD is blessed with these individuals who have taken the time to train to become instructors.
BGFD belongs to the Scott County Fire Chief’s Association, Scott County EMS Association, Iowa Firemen’s Association, Iowa Association of Arson Investigators and the Iowa Chief’s Association. |
